Namecoin (NMC) is a cryptocurrency and an alternative, decentralized DNS (Domain Naming System) allowing people to register a .bit domain. It is based on the Bitcoin code - it uses the same proof-of-work algorithm and is limited to 21 million coins. Unlike Bitcoin, Namecoin can store data within its own blockchain transaction database.

For more information, see the Electrum-NMC GitHub page. You can also see our manual for using Bitcoin with Electrum in Apps:Electrum - the setup should be very similar.
