Trezor Wiki/User/Suite manual/ Updating the Trezor device firmware

The purpose of this guide is to help users update the Trezor device firmware. This page applies to Trezor One (show for Trezor Model T).

Updating the device firmware is often the only way to expand the functionality of your Trezor, to apply new security measures, and to enable newly developed features.

When a new firmware version is released, Trezor Suite will display an easily-noticeable bar along the upper part of the wallet interface.

To check your current firmware version, visit Device settings in Trezor Suite, which is accessed by clicking on the gearwheel icon in the top right of the interface. To see the firmware changelog, see Trezor firmware changelog.

Updating the firmware[edit]

If at any point you are prompted to update your device firmware, make sure you have your recovery seed prepared before clicking on the green Install firmware button:

ImportantBefore proceeding with any firmware update, make sure your recovery seed is available and in reach. If the update malfunctions it could erase the Trezor device memory so having your seed ready lets you immediately recover your wallet. Verify your seed is correct at any time by performing a Dry-run recovery

ImportantYour Trezor will be wiped if the device connection is lost while loading the new firmware. This can sometimes happen due to a faulty or disconnected cable. If this happens, reconnect your Trezor and repeat the installation process and prepare to recover your accounts afterwards.

Let the device install the new firmware. Do not disconnect the device while the firmware is loading.

Do not hesitate to contact us via Support center if you encounter any unexpected behavior, notifications, or warnings during the update process.
