Recovery refers to the process of using a recovery seed to restore and enable access to already existing accounts.

The purpose of this guide is to help you to do wallet recovery on your Trezor Model T (show for Trezor One).

Preparing your Trezor for recovery

The Trezor device is only able to operate with one seed at a time. In order to load a different seed to an already initialized device, it is necessary to erase the device's memory. Wiping the device's memory deletes all data associated with the pre-existing accounts and settings associated with the device, such as PIN, name, homescreen, and passphrase settings.

WarningAlways make sure your seed is valid before wiping your device! You can check the validity of your seed at any time by doing the Dry-run recovery

Your Trezor is ready for you to restore your wallet using your recovery seed. Skip to Recovery process.

Wiping the memory of a locked, PIN-protected device

Similarly to other types of passwords, PIN often gets lost and forgotten. A locked Trezor Model T only allows disabling the PIN protection by resetting the device to factory settings.

When connected to Trezor Wallet, swipe your finger across the screen while simultaneously plugging the cable in your Trezor Model T. Once connected in bootloader mode, confirm the connection to Trezor Wallet on your device.

You can see the process of getting into the bootloader mode illustrated in this short clip.

Wiping the memory in the Trezor Wallet interface

Select the device in the Trezor Wallet interface by clicking on the name of your Trezor and find the Advanced tab in the menu bar located at the top of the page. Here you can configure the device's advanced settings.

Click the Wipe device button at the bottom and confirm the action on your Trezor.

If your Trezor is uninitialized, an option to either create a new wallet or recover an existing one is presented. If the device has already been initialized and you would like to recover a different seed, return to the Preparing your Trezor for recovery section above.

Click the Recover wallet button and prepare to enter you recovery seed.

Select the corresponding number of words in your seed using your Trezor's touchscreen. Trezor is capable of recovering 12, 18, and 24-word long seeds.

Enter the individual words of your seed on your device, following the instructions displayed on Trezor's touchscreen.

NoteTrezor Model T enforces the entry of all recovery seed words on the device. This way the seed stays in an isolated and safe environment

Once you've successfully recovered your wallet, continue the setup by enabling basic security features and customizing your experience.

ImportantIf you had been using passphrase before, you will need to re-enable it after recovering your Trezor. Use the same passphrase to re-access your wallet.
